system Analyst (Storage Management)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Planning, configuration, data migration and implementation for new storage acquisitions.
  • Monitoring for performance of the storage subsystems.
  • Capacity planning and storage allocation forecasting.
  • SAN connectivity.
  • Data security and retention policy
  • Provides training, direction and leadership for junior members of the team

KEY CHALLENGES:

The external environment, including technology, competition, markets:

  • Learning and adapting new storage technology into the International Paper storage environment.
  • Working with storage vendors on storage related projects.
  • Working with external customers on storage related issues and projects.

The internal environment, including interaction with others, (both inside and outside the company) policies/practices:

  • Working with internal customers on storage related issues.
  • Managing growth in the range of 20% annually.
  • Creating new storage strategies to address the growth and performance of the storage environment.
  • Creating new disaster recovery strategies to address faster restore requirements.

The work itself, e.g., problems, opportunities, change:

  • Managing growth and the demands of the environment.
  • Creating a more cost effective storage allocation model.

SCOPE:

Assist both internal and external customers with current and future storage technologies to ensure the prudent and judicious use of corporate resources. Provide backup and recovery plans and implementation for storage subsystems to support disaster recovery. Provide storage configuration and planning for the existing SAN environments.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • This position requires 4-5 years of experience working with EMC and/or NetApp storage.
  • Similar experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN) & Network Attached Storage (NAS).
  • For EMC – knowledge of Unisphere, Navisphere Manager, SNAPs and SRDF.
  • For NetApp – knowledge of Unified & Performance Manager, SNAP Mirror and SNAP Center.
  • Also desired is experience with remote storage management.
  • Knowledge with VMware a plus.
