Job Posting: Manager, Data Engineering (Healthcare/Pharma domain)

Overview
An innovative and rapidly growing organization in the healthcare and pharmaceutical space is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering to lead its data team in building and maintaining a cutting-edge Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) hosted on Azure and Databricks. This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for a seasoned data architect with proven team management experience and a deep technical background in Azure-based data solutions.
This role is perfect for a candidate passionate about solving complex data challenges, driving data architecture decisions, and mentoring a team of data professionals in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and DBAs responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of a cloud-based EDW.
- Collaborate with a program manager to plan and deliver data engineering initiatives aligned with business priorities and timelines.
- Architect and implement scalable data pipelines, models, and ETL processes using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and related technologies.
- Manage and optimize Azure cloud services to ensure high performance and cost-efficiency.
- Enforce data governance policies and quality standards to ensure data integrity and compliance in a healthcare environment.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including analysts, data scientists, and business leaders, to understand data needs and translate them into actionable solutions.
- Provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with development work as needed.
- Document architecture, processes, and standards while fostering a knowledge-sharing environment across the team.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Deep hands-on expertise in Azure cloud platforms, specifically Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Data Lake.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark (Scala is a plus).
- Experience designing and implementing data solutions in a healthcare or regulated data environment (HIPAA/GDPR).
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL best practices.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Git), agile methodologies, and tools such as Azure DevOps.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using project management tools such as MS Project or SmartSheets.
- Previous work in a pharmacy or specialty pharmacy data environment.
