The Data Engineer will work on a team of Business Analysts, project managers, software architects, and DBAs to determine logical and physical database designs for new systems and analytics models. Responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams, and building world class analytics. Will ensure that an optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout analytics and ongoing projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build a data platform that will leverage state-of-the-art data technologies to minimize development time and maximize performance and flexibility
  • Design and create data models to support data warehouse and analytics usage
  • Define the architecture and infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
  • Create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture
    • Cleansing & storing data from internal and external sources
    • Automated anomaly detection
    • Management of access/entitlements
  • Build mechanisms that allow researchers and analysts to interact with the data
  • Be a SME for questions about the nature, completeness, and correctness of data
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements
  • Build analytics to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics
  • Work within the data team to strive for greater functionality and efficiency in our data systems
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance within a team environment
  • Actively supports corporate efforts, policies, and protocols for Security, Information Protection, and Threat Protection

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience in data modeling, ETL development (Data Factory, Talend, etc), data warehousing
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets
  • Experience with a Data Lake and Warehouse technologies such as Microsoft, Snowflake, etc.
  • Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g. C#, Java, C++, Python)
  • Experience processing large amounts of data, in various formats and modes.
  • Experience processing files in various image, audio and video media formats
  • Exposure and knowledge of Security, encryption and Data Governance
  • Experience working with relational databases and query authoring (SQL)
  • Moderate knowledge of cloud services such as Azure and AWS
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Must be a team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently
  • Proven track record of delivering timely and accurate information in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, mathematical skills and sound judgment
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interface with executive management

Education, Certification and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience (3+ years) as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist, Business Analyst) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
  • Experience building business intelligence tools utilizing PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, or Cognos
  • Experience and skills with MS Office, including Excel & PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of all stages in a project lifecycle and delivery approaches
