Job Title: Manager of Software Engineer (Onboarding) 

Location: Memphis, TN

Job Description:

The Manager of Software Engineering - Onboarding will focus on the critical role of onboarding new engineers to the company. They will design and implement a program which 'boot camps' new engineers and trains them on the organization’s standards and practices. At the appropriate time, the new engineers will graduate to other permanent teams.

This role will have the unique and exciting opportunity to shape the overall design and architectural patterns of the organization to reduce Technical Debt and propel the organization forward in software modernization.


  1. Manages Software Engineering staff, including the definition and education of best practices, skills, and standards for development, testing (unit, functional, load, and security), deployment, maintenance, and documentation of applications. Manages and mentors Software Engineers, Business Analysts, System Analysts and other team members related to software platforms on multiple product teams. Ensures design and development is appropriately aligned with overall organizational quality and information security standards and expectations. Responsible for mentoring, guiding, reviewing and teaching others. Responsible for leading their respective teams with individual competencies.
  2. Works with the Director Platform to develop and implement development strategies and tactics. Includes making recommendations to Director on annual budget requirements.
  3. Responsible for ensuring staff performs duties effectively by performing code reviews, feedback sessions, and utilizing other coaching tools. Facilitates and manages conflict resolution.
  4. Drives best practices and ensure development of high quality and secure solutions/technologies. Advocates for common assets, modern design, and framework components. Coaches, counsels, educates and writes performance appraisals for staff.
  5. Manages vendor relationships to ensure development assignments are delivered appropriately, timely and according to the organization’s software engineering standards.
  6. Responsible for career path and development plans to encourage long term growth for employees. Approval of education and training opportunities including management of training budget.
  7. Works effectively with all ITS departments to insure appropriate alignment with organizational objectives.


  • Requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the software engineering field and have working knowledge of current and trending applications, programing languages, and development tools.

  • Knowledge understanding of software engineering principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency with web servers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft technology stack, .Net, Salesforce, database integration, API design, SQL, automation technologies;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Knowledge of technology skills; ability to interact well with team members Team oriented.
  • Passionate about developing other’s skills and capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Deep understanding of agile development processes and methodology.
  • Knowledge of Agile Engineering and development including Continuous Integration and Delivery practices.
  • Requires knowledge ordinarily acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and 6+ years of experience in information technology and 2+ years management experience.
