Regional Foundation Development Consultant
Location: Remote (Johannesburg, South Africa) with International Travel

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Regional Foundation Development Consultant to support and strengthen the operational and fundraising capabilities of nonprofit and foundation organizations within a designated region. This role focuses on evaluating current practices, identifying opportunities for growth, and providing strategic guidance to help organizations increase impact, efficiency, and sustainability. The consultant will work closely with regional leadership, foundation staff, and board members, operating with a high level of autonomy in a remote, internationally focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of foundation operations, including fundraising, marketing, technology, governance, and resource utilization

  • Analyze organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks, and translate findings into clear insights

  • Develop and deliver assessment summaries, opportunity analyses, and actionable strategic and tactical recommendations

  • Provide strategic leadership and advisory support to foundation staff and boards

  • Support regional engagement activities, including facilitating meetings and events

  • Design and deliver educational sessions aligned with regional and global objectives

  • Collaborate with regional leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to drive measurable improvements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as social sciences, business, or international development

  • Ten or more years of experience working with foundations, nonprofits, or social enterprises

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken

  • Proficiency in at least one relevant regional language

  • Demonstrated understanding of regional cultures and operating environments

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and work in remote or challenging settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising or leading multi-organization or cross-border initiatives

  • Background in organizational assessments, capacity building, or fundraising strategy development
